Oakmont has developed it own retraining program for our retired Thoroughbreds geared toward the amateur rider. Since all of our racehorses are handpicked by our own professionals from the most prestigious yearling sales in the United States we are in the fortunate and extrodinary position of knowing all our horses at a very young age. Once retired and after a "let down" period our horses are assessed for their compatibility as a sporthorse into our program. They are then taught basic flatwork skills including softening to and accepting of the riders hands and legs. Our horses then progress to collection and extension,, lateral work and flying changes. Pole and cavelletti work follows with introduction to gymnastics and simple lines graduating to small courses. The majorityy of our horses will have some show experience to try to ensure the best possible scenario for success into the sporthorse world. Oakmont horses have shown on the Southern California A circuit @ San Juan Capistrano, Showpark, Del Mar and Thermal and will continue to do so in 2017!
